Does anyone have any idea what the largest size tires I can put on a John Deere 318. I believe it has 23-10.5-12 and would like a little taller and wider. And also any suggestions on ag type tires. thank you.

Bulldog Me thinks you have all the tire you're gonna stuff under the fenders. You can get chevron type tires for it and may be able to stuff alittle more under there. But for more tire (wider) you may have to get new wheels.
Check Miller Tire.

Is this just for looks, need to go faster, more traction, or? I believe you could go to the 12. tire without a problem possibly other than gauge wheels placement on the mower deck. ....

It's for looks, stability, and traction. It appears that there is about 3" from the 23-10.5-12's from the top of the tire to the fender. I'd like to put a 24-12-12, 24-13-12 or a 26-12-12 tire on it. ....

You will be changing the relationship to the ground for everything that connects to the tractor, on the mower and snowblower or blade, you might have to adjust linkages. Go for it! ....

If you jump too much in diameter you mower guadge wheels will not clear. Check how close they are now. Other than that you should have minimal problems getting deck reset along with other stuff. ....

make sure first the tire you have on the machine is truely the size it is stamped with !! If it turns out its not really a 23 x 10.5-12 then you will have less room in the wheel well then you think you did, when you actually get a true 23" or bigger tire..look at carlisle tires web site with their acurate dimensions in the PDF file...
Ask me how I know this...:)
